The Ganges Neolithic people were settled village agriculturalists living in small-scale societies with minimal social differentiation. They were located along the Middle Ganges River valley in the area of the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in northern and northeastern India during the period 4000-2500 BP. Specific diagnostic material attributes of this tradition include coarse, cord-impressed unpainted pottery, bone and antler artifacts, stone tools of basalt and granite, and microliths of chert and silica.
